Who we are
The Advocate Mission started as result of the Moss Family's personal experience.
After our two oldest sons successfully transitioned to adult life, we began fostering a 3 year old who we subsequently adopted.
Our son had been severely neglected and arrived with a vocabulary of around ten words, half of which were Spanish. He was not potty trained and arrived with few possessions. We had tried to prepare for his arrival but we were not able to meet the needs of this little boy.
Our church family helped us overcome the challenges of providing for our little boy. The process opened our eyes to the plight of at risk children as well as to the families that take them in. It has also stirred in us, a passion for foster and adoptive families. We started The Advocate Mission to provide a community of love and support to foster and adoptive families just as our church family provided to us.
Our strategy
Prevent
at-risk children from entering foster care by supporting families in crisis.
Intervene
in a child's life when the state intervenes in a child's life.
Connect
children to families forever
250k+
children enter into the United States child welfare system each year.
23k+
children age out of foster care each year.
300k+
churches are serving communities in the United States.
Our region
The Advocate Mission serves the following North Carolina counties.
- Mecklenburg
- Cabarrus
- Lincoln
- Iredell
With over 400k children in the United States foster system, this means if each church served one foster family, all children would be supported.
